Just the other day I was scrolling through my social media page and noticed a warning notice that came out from the town.
Apparently there was a handyman that was going door-to-door offering his services to repair things for the residents.
The problem was that he would take a down payment and agree to show up the following day but then was not seen again. It turns out that many of the people who have been taken advantage of or too embarrassed to say anything because they couldn’t believe they had been so gullible but finally one elderly couple went to the town to lodge a complaint. A couple is on a fixed income and they were in need of maintenance being done on their HVAC system. The guy took a look at it and told them that it needed some pretty serious repairs and he would do it for half the cost of the local dealer in town. They had given the guy a two hundred dollar deposit and then he just disappeared. That may not seem like a huge amount to some people but to this couple it was all the savings they had at that moment. The guy had even told them that he would take payments, what a creep! Their story really touched my heart and I knew I could help. My husband works for the local HVAC dealer so I asked him to go repair their HVAC system at no cost. It was the least we could do and he made sure to leave them his card in case they had any other problems. Whatever you do, always make sure that you have a reputable contractor working at your home no matter how small or large the job.
