Talking to my children about college

My kids are growing up so fast it seems.

Honestly, it seems like it was just the other day when we were holding them for the first time when they came into this world.

It’s sad to see them all grown up now, and soon they will be off to college. I am really proud of my children though because they are all so smart and they all have good heads on their shoulders. I have talked to all of them about college too. Some of my kids want to go to college, and one of them doesn’t. I feel that as long as they figure out what they want to do in life, they will be just fine. When I talked to my eldest son about not wanting to attend college, I asked him what he was interested in. The problem was, he didn’t know what he wanted to do. He didn’t want to jump into college and look stupid for not knowing what he wanted to get into for a career. I told him he didn’t have to go right away, and it wasn’t necessarily difficult to figure out what he wanted. He said he loved music, but he wasn’t sure if he was any good at it. I decided to talk to him about perhaps learning a trade. I was saying that a valuable trade could really get you places in life. He seemed to be interested in going to a trade school instead of a regular college. I mentioned that HVAC technicians were able to get their certifications relatively fast. His eyes lit up when we started talking about that. He seemed to like the idea of less school. Not to mention the money these HVAC technicians make is really good. Good money and less school was all he needed to hear, he wanted to be an HVAC technician and learn all about heating and cooling equipment. I told him to think about it, and to think about other things he might want to do as well.
