I knew my mom didn’t like going to the zoo with us, but I loved it.
When I got older, I decided to get a job at the zoo, and it was the coolest place I have ever worked.
I learned more about the animals and their mannerisms after working, than I had ever known before. I get to help feed the animals and they have some really odd times and things to eat. Even the amount of times they get fed every day, is different for the animals. I couldn’t believe how many animals are nocturnal. I think the most important thing I learned about the animals is how different their HVAC needs are. We have those that are desert dwellers and they need a good furnace to keep them hot and a dehumidifier so they have the arid conditions they require. Other animals come from tropical regions. Not only do they need the good heating systems for the heat, but they also need the humidifier to make their area hot and sultry. Then you have the ones that live in the Polar region. They need extremely cold temperatures, so they not only need the air conditioners but chillers to keep it icy. They also need a dehumidifier to keep the moisture out of the air. There are so many heating systems and air conditioning systems in the zoo, that I can’t count them. The only thing I’m not thrilled with is that I am constantly in and out of the exhibits. I go from a heated and humid area to a cold and no humidity area all day long.
