Because of local weather, a central cooling system isn’t a necessity.
I always managed the brief summer time season with portable cooling systems in the living rooms and box fans in the rest of the house; This wasn’t ideal.
I never liked the look of the portable cooling systems and sad about the security risk of open windows. The fans tended to blow a lot of dust around, made lots of noise and couldn’t keep up on actually tepid afternoons. I still had no intention of upgrading to central a/c until a local Heating, Ventilation, and A/C dealer gave a special on installation. There was also an available rebate from a well-known manufacturer on a top-of-the-line system, then because I already had the air handler and ductwork in locale for the forced air gas furnace, the investment into central cooling was not all that much. I hoped it would help with my allergy symptoms. The central cooling system has made a huge improvement in the health, comfort and cleanliness of my home, however with the windows closed, there’s no influx of pollen, dust, bugs or exhaust fumes, then plus, the cooling system actively filters the indoor air, trapping airborne particulate! Even when the outside temperature is mild, I run the cooling system’s fan. The fan circulates the air throughout the house, making it recognize fresh and continuing to supply filtration; On actually tepid and humid afternoons and afternoons, I simply lower the temperature control and every room is perfectly comfortable; My whole family sleeps better and has more energy during the afternoon. Because the new cooling system achieves a 26 SEER, it uses minimal energy and hasn’t made a huge impact on my electric bills.
