I am a leaseholder, but I am fighting my girlfriend on this issue right now. She wants nothing more than to buy a home. I just can’t handle having that much financial responsibility. I love being able to call up the landowner at the drop of a pin when I have a problem. It is in my lease that he is responsible for all service and repairs, but lately the two of us have been having the worst time with our landlord. To say he is neglectful is a total understatement. We have been fighting to get our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit, that comes with our rental, taken care of properly. Both of us could tell the vents were a bit congested up plus the air filters needed to be changed by the poor quality of air. I had been calling him for over three weeks now, and my girlfriend lost her patience after the first couple of days. She told me that if another thing were to go wrong with this rental, then I had to promise to consider buying a house after the two of us finally get married. I agreed thinking maybe the landlord would come through. Would you guess the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit totally crashed the next day? I couldn’t have guessed it! I called him again and was pleasantly surprised to get him on the phone. I told my girlfriend that didn’t count, since he was sending out a Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C specialist immediately to check on the unit. I thought I had calmed her down pretty well until more than four hours went by with no Heating, Ventilation, and A/C specialist plus no air conditioner. Then, a day went by plus another day. Before you knew it, the two of us were moving into our first house with our own Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit. I lost this battle miserably.
