I just bought a rental property upstate because I wanted to use it for a few weeks out of the year ourselves too. It would be a great way to have a getaway property that paid for itself. The people I was with and I made sure to have is furnished with just about everything a renter would need with the exception of their food and linens. We also bought a few kayaks for the lake that they could had along the property. The people I was with and I only used the property in what would be considered the “off season” because both of us didn’t want to limit the renters from their choices dring prime getaway times. Since the weather was constantly mild while both of us were there, both of us were able to have the windows and doors open. The people I was with and I seldom used the HVAC system. If both of us did turn on the heat or a/c it was only while both of us were sleeping. For this reason, both of us never noticed the problem with the windows. In little time, we started getting monthly bills for the utilities during the rental season and couldn’t suppose how high they were. When my sibling went to check it out he found that the Heating, Ventilation and A/C plan was running almost non stop. He tested the control unit and it seemed fine. He then noticed a chilly draft in the living room and found that the windows were not sealed properly! This was very disappointing to say the least. The Heating, Ventilation and A/C plan was running so difficult because the freezing air from outside was penetrating the windows. We contacted a local company to have the Heating, Ventilation and A/C plan tested, as we figured it could’ve been damaged for being overworked.
